Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

This sore shoulder of mine is proving to be troublesome. Mostly, it’s just awkward to do some normal movements, but on a couple of nights lately, it has become achingly sore. I have to get up and take ibuprofen. Then I can’t sleep, so stick my earpods in and listen to the World Service on BBC. So thank goodness I’m going to the physio tomorrow.

A fine sunny morning, so Archie and I set off into town, with no clear plans. Actually we jumped on a bus for a few stops. We had a wee look round Greyfriars Churchyard, haven’t been for ages. I’ve done this shot before, but the huge pile of sticks for Bobby to play with in Heaven (placed there by the same folk who rub Bobby’s statue’s nose) was worth a photo.

I briefly considered going further into town, but instead we came back through the Meadows, as the years-long re-development of the old hospital has reached another milestone. The huge blue hoardings that have hidden the building site for years have been removed. And the building looks wonderful!

We had a wee look in what I thought was just a cafe (JR was told No Dogs) but I wandered in and was told that dogs were allowed. And it’s not just a cafe, there’s a restaurant and a huge area with big windows and sofas and laptop plugs. Super!

It was really warm as we walked home. Archie just strolled beside me - not tugging to sniff every tree as is usual. I think he was too hot…

JR went down town to return the gym shoes that she went down town last week to return, but then didn’t. But she’s found the perfect ones.

I’m missing Wimbledon, but I watched women’s T20 cricket England v NZ). Much better than football.
