The second half of life..

The End

All good things must come to an end and the hoar frost end happened pretty quickly.  I'd got up early enough to watch England sadly lose to (I have to confess) a better Spanish team, though they did play reasonably well which was good.  It was a little foggy at the campground but noticeably milder and definitely above freezing.  As I unplugged the van and packed the cord away I could hear the constant light, somewhat watery thuds of rime falling from branches onto the ground.  I drove to a few places to see what was happening and of course, same story all round.  Passing the Iron Bridge ponds I was at yesterday was like seeing a completely different place - all gone, just the tell-tale snow-like deposits under the trees.  It was an easy decision to head home today, but not before I'd been back to the Wairepo Arm/Kellands Ponds area to see how things were looking.  Compare the main pic with this one taken 3 days ago.  I also wanted to take a Day 5 tree pic (extras).  Looks quite different with no fog to natually erase the pylon!  Still a little frost hanging in there, but pretty much all done.

After this year's experience I think I will have to make a return next winter for Hoar Frost - the Sequel . New ideas, new learnings, new places........now I know I can do it reasonably comfortably I feel a lot more confident to do it again.

Left just before 1pm and am at Weedons tonight.  Would like to have been further along but I felt a bit tired.  Maybe an early (for me!) start tomorrow.....
