Gardening

You know my style of gardening: cut and chop everything down with secateurs, a saw or the fun mattock.

I started on the thistles, taller than Mr Pandammonium, cutting them down at the base with secateurs, then chopping them up so they’d fit in the wheelie bin. I did about half of them, then started on the horrible bronze fennel. It was slow going, but the green wheelie bin was almost filled. Then I remembered the machete.

I fetched the machete from where I’d hidden it in plain sight. I’d never actually used it because it was a bit scary, but I’d been scared of the mattock till I tried it. The machete was fun, too. A couple of swipes cuts down loads of tall weeds. Progress was much faster. Swipe, swipe, swipe!

In the afternoon, we went to visit friends, taking the cupcakes I made yesterday. They went down well, despite initial misgivings about vegan cakes. I’m glad to contribute to improving the reputation of vegan cakes. Thanks, Freya from Bake Off!

In about half an hour, we’ll settle down to England losing to Spain in the men’s Euros. If only the men’s team was as good as the women’s.
