Punting on the River Cam

Day spent in Cambridge soaking up the sun, wondering the streets, in and out of shops (retail therapy I think the wives call it) and along the side of the River Cam - no punting for us.

In earlier times the Cam was named the Granta, but after the name of the Anglo-Saxon town of Grantebrycge had been changed to Cambridge, the river was renamed to match although it has been said that the River is the "Granta" above the Silver Street Bridge in Cambridge and the "Cam" below it.

Cambridge is most widely known as the home of the University of Cambridge, founded in 1209. The university includes the renowned Cavendish Laboratory, King's College Chapel, and the Cambridge University Library. The large grass area known as Parker's Piece hosted the first ever game of association football.
