Somewhere Else

I decided Blipping my beer for the second consecutive day is the way to go this evening. There is more to it than meets the eye.

I visited Whitehaven Miners Welfare Club to refresh myself before the rugby at Whitehaven's stadium next door. I have never been in a miners welfare club before. Another "first".

My beer (a pint) cost me £3.20. Brits will appreciate the significance of that.

I sat there for 45 minutes on my own. Eventually a Whitehaven fan in his 80s came to join the barmaid and I. They reckoned the usual customers were saving themselves for the football tomorrow.

"Oh, what football is that?" I enquired in my best Scottish accent.

One of my Extras is the inside of the stadium just to prove I did not sit in the club all afternoon. It was a great game - Toulouse (or TO XIII to give them their proper name) won 34-24 but they only got ahead in the last 10 minutes. Until then it could have gone either way, and Whitehaven were leading at half time.

Another Extra is my lunchtime coffee spot, people watching at the marina. A lovely place (Howling Wolf) and the best cinnamon bun I have eaten for a very long time.

The last Extra is Whitehaven Parkrun. Yes, my addiction is strong.
