I went out this morning to do a quick bit
of chilled food shopping at the supermarket. I was to be back home within an hour as I had some stuff to do.

I was at the till conveyor belt, having one person in front of me and one person behind me, when I realised the cashier had rapidly left the till. Then the woman in front of me, whose stuff was still on the conveyor belt was also making her way to the exit. The man behind me had left his trolley and also making his way to the exit. And I was jammed in a tight area with my walker, not being able to get out. I realised the staff were all hastily exiting the store. I had no idea why at this point. It was probably well less than a minute from the cashier leaving the till, and I kicked the shopping trolley behind me out of the way. And started walking slowly (fast as I could) towards the exit. No one took any notice of me, nor offered to help me, everyone had left the store, all staff (& customers ) had left the store, I was last to leave.

I did not have my cochlear sound processor on because last night something corrupted the program out of the blue, and it went off. And when I tried to connect the cochlear sound processor up this morning it would not do so saying 'error message'. So, I had no means of hearing any sound.

I assumed it must have been a fire alarm in the supermarket, because it took all the store assistants by surprise, and they just got the hell out of the place. I had a quick look around but there were no visual flashing lights anywhere. I thought something like that was supposed to be law these days.

I do have the sunflower lanyard on, which means hidden disabilities. I have a large enough red tag on it, saying I am deaf and I lipread. I am pushing my walker at snail's pace. Not one staff came to help me. And I didn't see one member of staff checking all the aisles...it was every person for themselves....

The only reason I stayed outside, before we were let back in over half an hour later, was that I had left my handbag (cards & phone etc) on the conveyor belt, I was more intent on getting out of the trapped position I was in between the 2 trolleys, and I needed my walker to walk...and the store was empty by then...

I fell asleep, when I got back home, for 2 hours.

I don't feel like doing much today now. I am going back to sleep.

That alarm, whatever it was, because I couldn't hear it, was a total surprise to both staff and customers (It was a biggish supermarket), and it was literally every person for themselves to get the heck out of there.

Have your best day...
