Obligatory Brewery Visit
Another epic day! We sussed out where Rob's exhibition is (thanks to the map feature) and discovered that it's not far from us! The beach in a car park looked fun, but we had no idea of what 'Boxland' was about.
But when we got there it was deserted. Only open at weekends! Although a man did tell us that some of the food stalls were opening up later in the afternoon. We decided to come back tomorrow. As we were so near the Carlsberg Brewery, we popped in for a visit. And actually, it was great value, as two beers (each) were included in the 70Kr price. And as we'd paid 90Kr (£10) yesterday, well, anything would be reasonable.
The elephants are the famous entrance to the brewery. I stood in the middle of the road for ages, waiting for a colourful cyclist, but this chap will have to do.
It was a brilliant (self guided) tour. Everything in English, and very well set out. First of all (well, after out first beer) we went through the stables, where they still keep some draught horses for pulling the trailers. What magnificent animals, even though one of them gently nibbled JR's expensive shoulder bag when she wasn't looking.
Another place for a beer and food was out in the courtyard, but we went to the upstairs bar and looked down on the bottling plant. It was an amazing huge bar area, with a circular copper bar, fantastic leather bean bag type things, Carlsberg ads projected on to the wall in a loop, and a very good soundtrack - old stuff! Sometimes we couldn't remember the artist, and in fact, I went to ask the barmaid who was singing, 'Killing Me Softly' - Roberta Flack, of course!
On the way in to the Carlsberg Compound, there was the most amazing adventure playground. There were ropes and high wires and even a car away up in the trees. The place was packed with kids, all climbing round between the trees, over old beer crates, supermarket trolleys, dangling logs etc. They all had safety harnesses and hard hats on. I've never seen anything like it in the UK- 'elf'n'safety would have it shut down!
So the brewery visit was a bonus, and we'll be heading to Boxland Beach tomorrow! Another relaxing evening in our beautiful flat. We watched 'The Hurt Locker' last night. Not one that I rushed to the cinema to see, but it was riveting!
