Trixie's Adventures

Where has Mr Sunshine gone? (And a 'ranty' Blip)

After our very lovely, lazy, sunny, day yesterday; today has been positively winter like. I went along the lane for my first thing in the morning walk but it was a bit mizzly & drizzly and also a bit cold. Then I got left home alone while my human went to Zumba.

Yesterday we just frittered the day away, lying around in the sunshine, so today Ann was determined to get all the jobs done. We went to the Range and B&M in Penzance (obv I just had to wait in the car) because she wanted to buy an outside storage unit for her recycling bags. Neither had any!

For the first time in her life, my human is going into recycling in a big way. Cornwall Council are now only collecting our landfill rubbish once every two weeks and our recycling every two weeks. In the past, the only thing Ann has recycled was her wine bottles because she has so many of them. Lol!! The trouble is................... if you live in a small house, just where do you keep all your recycling for two weeks? Personally she doesn't think it's been thought through properly. Town is full of recycling bags blowing about in the wind and new black wheelie bins that have been delivered to properties to replace the green wheelie bins, but half of them have been delivered to holiday properties, which shouldn't have them (because they have to pay for commercial waste). It's all a bit of a shambles. But my human must not RANT!!!  Oh, just one more comment.................. the food waste is being collected every week. Why? We don't have very much food waste. We certainly don't have more than one tiny bag a week. We're guessing other people have loads?!! Maybe we just don't waste very much food??!! Oh and one final comment/question – where do we throw dead flowers? Normally Ann would just chuck them into the landfill bin, but can they go into the food caddy or are they officially garden waste?

Anyway, after the Range & B&M we went to Lidl where I had to wait again, while Ann stocked up her wine supplies. Lol! Then I got a walk around the boating lake, along to Newlyn and back along the prom. I didn't bother trying to swim in the boating lake because just look at all the horrible green algae that was floating on top of it. We didn't really walk for very long because there were signs all over Lidl's car park saying we could only park for 90 mins and Ann didn't want to get a fine.

This afternoon Ann spent a productive hour or so, sorting out her money and paying bills. Ie, she had to pay a huge bill to HMRC for the tax year 2023/24. It's so annoying because we didn't actually rent out our house here much last year, she hasn't filled in her tax return yet and they're just estimating how much they think she owes. But if she doesn't pay it by the end of the month, she'll have to pay interest on it. ….............And can you ever talk to anyone in the tax office? You cannot. My human could rant forever about trying to speak to the tax office................... but who cares?!

Mid afternoon I went out for another walk around town and a play on the Island area. It's always really busy in town during the day, but there doesn't seem as many people staying here than in previous years. Personally, my human thinks that a lot of places increased their prices by huge amounts the year after lock down (when no-one could go abroad), lots of people bought second homes, thinking they could make a quick buck; and the bubble has burst. It's expensive here. Obviously St Ives is one of the most beautiful places in the UK, but if you consider the price of accomodation, the cost to get here, the expensive restaurants and the unreliable weather.................... for the same (if not cheaper) price, you could go to an all inclusive 5* holiday resort abroad with guaranteed sunshine. #justsaying

…..............And that's enough RANTING for one day. ….............My human has 4 days of work coming up. She just feels like she never has enough 'rest' time, but that's probably because for the 2.5 months that we spent in Edinburgh before coming here, she did nothing but walk me and watch a lot of TV. In reality.................... my human definitely prefers to be busy.
