Shap Abbey

This is somewhere, not too far from home, that I hadn't visited. Shap Abbey was built in 1199 and closed in 1540. much of the stone work has been removed for other purposes such as the building Shap Market Hall and Lowther Castle.

We had made this visit as we had an evening meeting nearby and had a picnic here.

Our evening event was a walk with Cumbria Wildlife Trust in the Haweswater area. Much of the are is owned by UU but the RSPB are working with them to set up the RSPB Wild Haweswater conservation project. Our visit began at Naddle Farm and ended in wildflower meadows in Swindale.
