Quod oculus meus videt

Excelsior Works

Coming back from the pool this morning, I walked past this door and wall plaque.  Today I took a photo and this evening I searched the internet for information about the property's history.  It looks as though it has been converted into flats, if the letter boxes are anything to go by but its history is interesting and shows how small scale manufacturing took place across the Black Country.

The works were the operating base of Samuel Wilkes and Sons Ltd, manufacturers of lock and body fittings for railway carriages and motor vehicles, castings, drop forgings, chromium plating, etc.

Other than that it was a working day, including some mandatory Prevent training from the West Midland Police.
