LIFE!!!

We had missed our DG1 outing on Monday, so went today instead. I did my aqua class and then we both had a sauna. D is getting to know the regulars now :-)

I asked to be dropped off at Irongray Church on the way home and wandered around the kirkyard before walking back. It's a fascinating place, with many stories to tell. I have a book with all the memorial inscriptions in it, transcribed by the wife of a former minister. She writes: "The church stands on a knoll where itinerant monks of the early Celtic church came periodically to conduct sacred ordinances." The kirk is mentioned in a document of 1274 as Kirkpatrick (the church of St Patrick). The present building dates from 1803. Most of the graves are made from local sandstone and the skill of the masons is apparent, as on this memorial to the Rev John McCubbin, who died in 1817. (full wording in extra)

I was fortunate to walk home in warm sunshine, and sat in the garden for a while with D. We hung some washing outside, too. I'm looking forward to getting some gardening done tomorrow as I think it will stay dry :-)
