Birthday Hike
Jess' birthday weekend continued to her actual birthday on Monday. I planned a trip and overnight stay in Ambleside.
My plan was a morning hike, lunch, wander around the town, dinner, and a sherbert or two. It didn't get off to a great start with parking dramas, first some residents kicking off about us parking perfectly legally in a residential street with no restrictions, I did invite them to my street in Whitehaven , where they could park wherever they liked and their kids could run around in our garden as is customary here. Normally I would have engaged in further badinage but it was not the day for it and they were not reasonable types, so in hope we went to the hotel we were staying at, despite there being 4 spaces empty again it was no dice until 3pm. And so to a municipal car park £10.70 for 6.5hrs.. Ambleside got it's extortionate way.
Things improved after that, we hiked up onto Wansfell Pike, the weather was fantastic, the views were superb and we didn't annoy any more locals. The blip is from the summit, birthday girl looking out over Windermere. We descended down to Stock Ghyll, there is a new cafe, "The Force" for a posh lunch sitting outside and then back into town through the woods, some nice waterfalls down there, one in extras.
