Monty's Birthday

We’re up in Bristol this weekend for #2 son Monty’s 21st birthday. He’s been backpacking in Europe for the last couple of weeks, from Budapest to Tirana and finally on to Valencia – and was flying back from Spain on the morning of his birthday. The drive from Dover to Bristol (two port towns on opposite sides of England) is usually quite a pleasant one… but on this trip, it really was a bit of a pig, with torrential rain that often overwhelmed the windscreen wipers and numerous sections of roadworks. Nevertheless, we got to Bristol airport in good time to meet Monty’s flight, and greeted him in Arrivals, embarrassing ‘Happy Birthday’ signs and balloons at the ready.

The evening celebrations took the form of a night out with a few of Monty’s friends in the bustling nightlife of Bristol Harbourside. Drinks at the ‘Spoons on Harbourside and then an amazing carnivore-fest at the Spitfire Barbecue, with more ribs, brisket, pulled pork and dirty fries than you could shake a stick at.
