Promenade Of Broken Dreams

Today's image was taken at Peters Village which has been the subject of some previous blips. It's a soulless bog standard housing development which has, in my opinion, completely wasted its glorious Medway Valley setting and the cool, blustery and overcast weather really seemed to add to its rather depressing mundanity. So why not capture an aspect of it for an uplifting blip!
My image shows the village's raised promenade at the river's age which is supposed to show off the site's picturesque views but has been cordoned off, not for the first time, behind metal fencing for the last few weeks with the intended lush grass banks opposite being badly planted turf, a high proportion of which appears to be dying off. I've never actually seen anybody walking along the promenade either apart from the very occasional dog walker. It was supposed to be part of what the developers called their "masterplan project" with new retail units, a food store, a village hall and a doctor's surgery - but the units are half empty, the food store is tiny and the doctor's surgery has never actually been built. The residents are far from happy with what they perceive to be extortionate service charges - especially for amenities that are not well maintained or have never arrived at all.
So I thought today's image and paraphrased downbeat title (my apologies to Green Day) kind of represented that in microcosm. I will try and post a cheerier blip tomorrow I promise!
