Making accommodations

Mr hazelh and I turned a 'Just popping out to the post office and the supermarket' errand into an expedition this morning. We were hoping to drop off an item to be engraved at Timpsons in Tesco, but discovered that they did not offer the service required. A recommendation from the Edina lock and key company sent us in the direction of Ferry Road, only to discover that the engraver is on holiday for the Edinburgh trades fortnight.

By this time we were ready for a drink. The Royal Botanic Garden seemed a good venue for coffee/tea until we discovered that it was very, very busy with tourists, and the garden itself swarming with Italian teenagers (easily identified by their yellow language school backpacks). We ended up taking a table along the road at Betty and George  - as did our friends Mike and Susie about five minutes after us. They were also evacuees from the Garden. There was a free table for two next to ours, so we pushed them together for a catch-up chat à quatre.

This afternoon I managed to do a little gardening before the rain returned. Then I worked on various admin tasks from the sofa in the sitting room, keeping Mummy hazelh company as she was watching Wimbledon. Now I need to go into the kitchen and marmalise the soup that I brewed on the stove after lunch.

Mr hazelh and I passed this tree and wall on Inverleith Row on our way to the (closed) engraver. How kind to build the wall around the tree trunk.

Exercise today: walking (12,373 steps). I gave 'proper' exercise today a miss this morning due to very poor sleep last night.
