A Sense of Place

Behind the cottage where we are staying is an earth mound which is all that is left of the original Norman castle. Nearby are the remains of the 13th century stone castle and below it the large house dating from 1770 and also bearing the name of Penrice Castle. Today we had a tour of the private gardens from the semi-retired head gardener. Fascinating not just for the trees and plants but also for the history and the people who live and have lived here.
