"Merry Melodies"

The memorial today was for a very good trombone player, Michael Powers, who was also a life-long friend of Eric's. The shelter is part of the Wildwood Recreation Site on the way to Mt Hood; it was nice to be somewhere a little cooler for the day, though two big events in one weekend, with lots of heat and driving, is too much: Eric's band played for the memorial, but when we arrived, we found he had forgotten the music at home, so, I drove back for it, trying to be safe and speedy while keeping an eye on our electric car range. There were many fine, Portland musicians there, it was a real treat to watch players taking turns.
Michael was a great player who lived a care-free life of excess with years of bad health before his death. But he was always the one to spot an uncomfortable person, a handicapped person, or an outsider, and would make their day better.
Eric takes a break (on the bench, next to his brother in the hat), while Adam takes a solo. Adam was one of Eric's fourth grade band students who has made the trumpet his living.
Michael's signature sign-off was, "Merry Melodies."
