A day in the life

Pettson&Findus

I finally went to see "Findus and the fox hunt" featuring Penny, an old student of mine in the role of Findus. The books about Pettson, the old farmer, Findus, his cat and Gustavsson, his neighbour is created by the Swedish author Sven Nordqvist. There are now about ten books, translated to 55 languages.

Some of the stories has been re-worked for the stage, "The fox hunt" is one of them. The three actors are doing a great job and the children are following what happens with great excitement. Especially the cat, Findus, is a favourite, since it constantly comes up with unexpected things and is literally never still during the one hour performance. I had the pleasure of hugging her after the show to gratulate her to the job and her cat suit was soaked.

Fun fact about the name "Findus": cats are often called Felix, maybe after the well known American comic-strip from the fifties called "Felix the cat". In Sweden we have two producers of frozen foods: Felix and Findus, that everyone here knows about so, of course Sven Nordqvist calls the cat Findus. In another story, he uses the same trick with the sowing machine called "Singer", appearing in the story, he calls it "Talker", of course.
His stories are lovely to read, they have amazingly detailed drawings and lovely characters and stories.
