Lock Cottage

I met up with my pal John for lunch at Exminster today. We're going to Cornwall for a few days photography next week.

The rain's been pouring for most of the day but it was almost dry after lunch so I decided to take a walk along the canal to Topsham Lock  Cottage. It's a lovely little building which dates back to 1800 and stands by the lock that goes between the river Exe at Topsham and the Exeter Ship canal. Originally the lock keepers cottage, in recent years has been a holiday let and a cafe but it's now closed and was looking a bit sad today. I understand it's been handed back to Exeter City Council and I understand that there are now plans to do the repair and renovation work it needs and then it will open again as an information hub for the canal with a small cafe. It would look a lot better if the hedges were just trimmed! I've added an extra of the cottage from across the canal
