The Crooked Bridge, Mostar
"Mostar is the hottest city in Europe" the city guide said - well not today! (though still hotter than it usually is in Dundee).
We had a tour of the old city on a grey morning before the crowds arrived and then had some time to wander and see a little more of its history, though I would have liked longer.
Needless to say I have pics of the famous new, old bridge, the Stari Most, reconstructed after the war, but so does everyone else. This small bridge was older but had to be rebuilt after floods in 2000 and is said to have been the inspiration behind the larger one. The engineer was charged with building the bridge over the main river and didn't know how to do so but thought if it worked here he would try it - and fortunately for him it worked (he might well have been executed if it didn't!).
Then on to Dubrovnik via 3 border crossings (Croatia, Bosnia, Croatia) with a long queue at the first one. The walled city is lovely but was very crowded and one would need to be very fit to live in it - which is probably one reason why not many do any more.
