A day in the garden .

Thank you so very much for all the ideas you offered with regard to what I might grow on the corner bed with the berry bearing climbers . I have used Alchemila mollis as ground cover along the hedgerow and it has worked well. Red and black currents are also thriving in other patches so I know that both work well , as suggested. The herbs that were originally growing there failed to thrive but I haven’t worked out why . The roots didn’t seem able to gain a hold and spread . I thought I would try edibles in pots which I can move around if they don’t seem happy and then over winter I will add lots of organic matter and let the worms do their stuff . I’ve been to the garden centre and bought some healthy looking chives plus a red veined sorrel . They are now in place !
Despite gloomy , drizzly weather I managed to spend much of the day uncovering and preparing the new bed on the pen that we made earlier in the year. So here is my next request for suggestions. My mini cucumber plants ( a plant I have not grown before ) have surprised me with their enthusiasm!
Do I dare plant them out in the new bed so that they have room to spread , I have some in the mini greenhouse but the ones in my photo have grown outside . Would they be better grown on in pots ? What do you growers of mini cucumbers think ?
The Extra is a photo of my first ever Hosta , inspired by some of the lovely photos posted by other blippers . They seem to do well in shady spots and I have plenty of those !
