Escó

Day 7. Escó and Fuerte Rapitán

A rest(ish) day today. First we headed off to the abandoned village of Escó. A number of villages were stripped of their inhabitants in 1960 when they built the Yeso reservoir. 3 villages and 1500 people were forced away. It does however leave a fascinating place to explore including a slowly falling apart church and about 100 houses.

After this we headed off to the Fuerte Rapitán high above Jaca and taking about 20 hairpin bends to get to the top of. The views were great and there were clouds of butterflies including this Pearly Heath.

Finally we drove up to Canfranc Estacion to beak at the enormous station that is now a hotel. Whilst we were there the place was inundated with Brits driving supercars including McLaren, Ferrari and Lamborghini. We saw at least 25 in all.
