Traditional Farmer

A Zimbabwean statue in the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens in Cape Town.

Carved from springstone by a sculptor called Dudzwai Chiswamba. It's called "Traditional Farmer", the accompanying notes explain...

"As a woman, I serve my family by planting and reaping in the traditional manner. The rewards of my work are many and I am happy to be strong enough to produce food for my children."

The craftsmanship is superb. This one is about 1.5 metres high and must weigh a good few hundred kilos.
