Seizing the opportunity

I loved the way this pineapple weed had found its own little flower pot in the middle of the tarmac prom this morning.

Back to Cramond this morning for parkrun where the weather stayed dry for us, with only a few drops of rain after the finish. This afternoon we’ve had some torrential showers again - oh, joy!

The big excitement of the morning came as we were going back up the steps from parkrun and I spotted a mole in the long grass. I’ve never seen a live mole before*. S/he had a beautiful black velvety coat. Unfortunately, just as I was about to get the phone out for a photo a small black spaniel came running down and spotted it. An anxious few moments, as I shouted at the dog and urged the mole to escape. Luckily, the mole reached safety and the dog’s owner caught up with the spaniel and put it on a lead. Phew!

*I remember, as a child, seeing rows of dead moles tied up along fences by molecatchers - a rather gruesome sight.
