D and I like to go to exhibitions at a small local gallery called Cample Line. Today we attended the opening of three new exhibitions. The one which made the greatest impression was "Pink as a Cabbage/Green as an Onion/Blue as an Orange by Asli Çavusoglu, from Istanbul. Asli was there in person and it was good to be able to talk to her about her work.

The textile pieces were made in response to the social uprisings in Turkey in 2013 and how planting/farming/gardening initiatives can be seen as political acts of resistance. The installation uses natural fabrics and dyes to tell the story of different food-producing collectives spread across Turkey. I loved the muted colours of the plant dyes; this embroidery is a small detail from one of the pieces.

Over the summer, the gallery hopes to host conversations and readings, creating connections with local food and growing initiatives and creative organisations.
