Wild Cardoon

The wild Cardoon Thistles, Cynara cardunculus, grow so tall and stately along the dry, dusty trails  and fields here. There are still a few beautiful purple, showy mop heads but these plants are fast drying out in the ferocious heat. They are lovely to photograph dried out too! For Wild Flower Week, with thanks to Miranda for your kind hosting.

It is the first day of a new Prime Minister and Labour government for the UK today. I feel hopeful that we might restore trust in ethical leadership and common decency in politics.
