Guess what happened next?

It's been a perfect summer's day with lots of sunshine and only a light breeze. As you can see this is a standard family photo. My cousins Freda and Joan and Joan's husband, Bob, came to visit us. We had our lunch and then repaired to the garden to drink tea and sit and chat the afternoon away.

Just after I took this photo there was a strong smell of smoke. My next door neighbour had inexplicably decided to set a fire going. We had to retreat indoors and rush to close all the windows. It was too late and the house smells strongly of smoke.

I can only think it was a rush of blood to the brain. He always calls us if he is going to make a fire, just in case we have washing outside. Why today - one of the few days we can sit comfortably in the garden? You have to smile. (In fairness, he put the fire out after he heard our exclamations of horror.)

Joan, Bob and Freda enjoyed the birds, some of whom came to feed even though we were outside. It's been a good day of catching up and enjoying each other's company.
