White Wagtail

A very gusty day and perhaps not the day to go hunting with the longer lens, but after a long and successful meeting with the builder I nipped up to Slimbridge while Janet sped off to the shops... priorities, innit.

Even windier on the Severn estuary... couldn't hold the lens stable enough to catch the peregrine in flight, or the kestrel likewise, so I settled down to watch the small birds on the shoreline. I was watching the little ringed plover in the extras (very camouflaged and difficult to spot), when this popped in.

I assumed it was a pied wagtail and watched it casually, banging off a couple of shots but not with much interest. When I got home however it turned out to be a white wagtail - I'd never heard of one of those, a subspecies of the pied wagtail more commonly found on the continent. I think this is a juvenile.

Gods, listen to me being a birder! Right, enough of that, incredibish. Off you go with your poll card and proxy and #GTTO! And to my US blip mates, happy Independence Day... don't mess it up! ;-)
