Jost Van Dyke Mooring

It was a very rainy morning with some huge cracks of thunder and close flashes of lightning and gusty winds. Should you swim in sea water during an electrical storm? NO. Google says that the salt is highly conductive.
At mid-day it cleared and my cousins decided to move from Tortola to a mooring off Jost Van Dyke Island.
Flocks of terns, Arctic and Lesser had formed a huge flock and were diving into a shoal of small fish near the boat, joined by a brown pelican.
I swam over to the island to  see if I could climb up to the top of the hill. Interestingly, the ground cover had a high density of very prickly cacti which I did not think my swim shoes would stand up to. However, the end of the land was a rocky outcrop which I scrambled up. It was very green below with lots of exotic looking low trees. Frangipani bushes in flower were the only ones I recognised. Above, a couple of frigate birds soared. I had not realised that the islands all have feral goats on them and listened to a baby goat calling for some time before recognising it.
There were some huge Turk's Cap cacti Melocactus intortus barrelling out  from cracks in the rock, some with their cap on and flowers adorning. They are popular in pots but actually indigenous to the area. Not good to brush against in a swim suit!
My cousins are very well organised and have a galley with everything you could need for anything up to multi-course meals so evening dining is something to look forward too! Still can't believe I'm here.
