Protons excited by three Teslas!

No not the EV, something with a lot more attraction!  

Sorry for the puns, but certainly something I had to read up on later.  Put simply, a large magnet (around 60,000 times that of the Earth) lines up the protons in the water molecules in your body (my ankle to be precise).  Then a low(ish) energy microwave field displaces them slightly, once the microwave is switched off, the protons release the energy, realigning with the magnetic field.  The MRI then measures this energy return, with the quickest being the most dense material (bone etc).  Incredible stuff, utterly amazing.  

Or in short, roughly 25 mins of lying very still, despite travelling at the speed of light you don’t a blurred picture, while the equipment whirrs and clunks noisily. Yes, really quite noisily!
