That's a wrap!
Cycle 8 done!
I first went to the doctors about my small lump in November 2022 and here we are in July 2024. I don't like the word journey but can't think of a better one. So here is mine...
• Biopsies
• Ultrasounds, MRIs, CTs, PET scans and echocardigrams, too many scans to count!
• Portacath put in
• 8 cycles of chemo and immuno
• 2 visits to A&E
• Bilateral mastectomy, full node clearance
• 15 rounds of radiotherapy
• Trial screening
• 8 rounds of trial drug
• 5 night hospital stay
Things I have learned:
- Family means everything. John and the girls and my sisters. My parents and my aunty.
- The smallest acts of kindness from friends has meant the world. Including comments and support on blip.
- Work is important and a huge part of our lives and a decent employer is a god send if you get sick. I am lucky.
- Ask for help. I had to learn to do that more. So many people have helped me with the girls, childminder, school, school mums.
- It doesn't matter what you look like.
- We must support our NHS and the workers. They are amazing people but it needs to be properly funded.
- Research is saving lives and fundraising makes a difference. I'm so grateful and proud to have been part of a clinical trial. One day we will beat cancer for good.
-Check your boob and don't delay seeing your doctor if you find something. Early diagnosis saves lives.
- The Royal Marsden has a great restaurant and does the best breakfasts!
For now I am healthy and I am grateful for that. I will always worry about the future and it coming back, but I will try and make the most of every day and hope the worries subside over time and the cancer never returns.
