To escape …

… unrelenting politics and sport, I took myself off twenty minutes down the road to Chesters Iron Age hill fort for a good old bit of archaeology.

This fortified village, which is around 2,000 years old, has a system of ramparts and ditches around a settlement of about twenty roundhouses, and is in the care of Historic Environment Scotland who describe it as "one of the best-preserved examples in Scotland of an Iron age fort".

Here’s some more info on the hillfort, if you are interested.

Back home now, and looking forward to do some gardening, if the rain holds off.

Have a good midweek all.
