‘A Harbinger of Death?’
Never put shoes on a table - because it was a sign amongst mining communities that a miner had died. Families of dead miners would leave their boots on the table as a tribute.
Fearing the worst, anyone seeing boots on a table would get a severe shock!
(Of course, it's not very hygienic either!)
