Otter

Today was a beautiful sunny day and I cycled around the coastline of Stanley Park in Vancouver and also ventured into the forested interior to Beaver Lake. At Third Beach I saw a family of otters swimming in the sea and then they came ashore in a rocky area. They were very confident and I was able to observe them from close quarters. The mother would swim out to sea and within a few minutes would catch a flatfish and then return to the rocks to feed them to her two cubs. I probably spent forty minutes watching them before they disappeared.

They were challenging to photograph not only due to their speed, but also due to the bright sunlight reflecting off their wet fur. I took hundreds of shots but only ended up with half a dozen reasonable photos.
