Astrantia maxima
Photo taken of section of near side burn border which is beginning to fill up nicely I've added a few annuals to fill in the gaps but it’s pretty well complete. This is my favourite Astrantia maxima. Although I use others as border fillers, this one delights me with its subtle pale pink petals which reveal a metallic green underside on close inspection ( which I can never resist)). Its form and leaf shape differ markedly from other astrantias, making it an exceptional addition to the border. It took a few years to establish but I now have two healthy clumps - in front is actaea which is adding drama and depth to the colour scheme.
