Luna – Part 2

Yesterday, my friend, Luna the Golden Retriever, came for a sleep over. Luna's about 18 months younger than me, so as a 'big grown up, mature, little Collie pup', Ann said it was up to me to set a good example and show her how to behave properly. Because we are both naturally very bouncy, when we get together it can sometimes be a bit much for the humans. Luna has never been to our house before so Ann thought that an overnight stay would be a perfect opportunity to see how well we got on together in our little house. Luna has a big garden that she's allowed to go in to play whenever she wants, so Ann was a bit worried that she would find our sun terrace a bit restricting.

On the whole Luna's visit went well. We walked perfectly together on our leads, from Luna's house to our house. That was the bit Ann was most worried about. Luna is quite strong and Ann was a bit anxious that she wouldn't be able to control two dogs together, but we were both perfect pooches.

Once into our house, Luna went straight to my 'manky old balls box' and emptied all my balls out. And then do you know what she did?................... She started to chew big chunks out of all my rubber balls. Do you want to know what I did?............................ I just lay and watched her. I didn't make a fuss at all. Normally I'm very possessive with my manky old balls so Ann thought that I would snarl at Luna and assert my authority, but I didn't because I remembered what Ann had told me about being a perfect host. She was sooooo proud of me. In fact she was so pleased with my behaviour that she has said she will buy me three brand new bouncy balls. Just how nice is that?  After Luna had finished chewing chunks out of my manky old balls she moved on to pulling stuffing out of my soft toys. I hardly ever play with my toys so that didn't bother me in the slightest. …...........And then after a couple of hours, we had dinner and she settled down for a snooze.

When we went to bed last night, Ann left the kitchen door open so that if we wanted anything in the night we could go upstairs and find her. Luna was perfect. She went to bed at 10.30pm and we didn't hear a peep out of her until we woke her up at 7.45am. Mmmmmm.................. I took the opportunity to go upstairs and sleep on Ann's bedroom floor. She didn't mind because she was really pleased that I'd welcomed Luna into our home so well.

For our morning walk we went down to the beach. Ann was a bit worried about letting Luna off her lead because her recall isn't as good as mine, and also being a Retriever, she eats everything she can put into her mouth. She managed about half an hour off her lead before Ann captured her and told her she had to go back on her lead. At this point she had what looked like a bit of plastic in her mouth, but could Ann get it off her? She could not!! Fortunately she spat it out just before we got home so all is good.

We had a lovely play on the beach together. We went rock climbing, we played in rock pools, we played chase with a big black poodle but he couldn't run as fast as us so he gave up and we just generally had a nice time together on the beach. We were both a bit tired when we got back home, so it was straight out onto the sun terrace for a snooze in the sunshine until Luna's owners came to pick her up at 10.30am.

On the whole Luna's sleepover went well and we'd be happy to have her to stay again. …..........Probably not for an extended period, but another overnight stay would be lovely.
