Early trip to the allotment where I moiled away for what felt like a long time, with no discernible effect. Did see a lot of wildlife - two rats (looked like youngsters) scuttling out of the shed when I opened it, a fox disturbed from his doze on one of the paths (I told him about the rats) and a huge influx of starlings and sparrows when I put out some bird food. The starling parents brought their youngsters to feed - they were only interested in the fat balls but there was terrible squawking and squeaking and the spudgers left it a while before getting at the seed.

Waiting for a bus back I noticed this sign in the window opposite - took a photo so that I could enlarge it to see what it said. Turned out to be the only photo with any colour in it, due to the starling/spudger wars being all in shades of brown.
