4 years to flower.

I got my current post four years ago after an application process I put an extreme amount of hard work into, from form, to interview and outfit.
I inherited a job which my predecessor had created from nothing. I find it quite daunting to carry forwars still.
I inherited some plants too.
My care of them is erratic but I try to build routine to give them care.
I have repotted all of them, some have had babies which I have moved into their own homes. I have lost one or two.
This cactus has been there since I moved in. Two weeks ago I was stopped in my tracks, astounded as much by my lack of observation as the giant shoot sprouting a foot and a half high.
I hoped it would flower before the Summer Break. I'd hate to have missed it.
Here it is.
Four years and still growing.
I hope they don't die after they flower!
