Dazzling...

This tiny little insect is a solitary wasp. It has a few names - ruby tailed wasp, jewel wasp and cuckoo wasp. It gets the name 'cuckoo wasp' because the female lays her eggs in the nests of other solitary bees and wasps. When their eggs hatch, they eat the larvae of the other species in the nest...just like a cuckoo. Any how, they are tiny but very dazzling in the sunshine. My extra today is a another find of a gorgeous beetle - the golden bloomed grey longhorn beetle. Also a beauty. Large view is much better. :)
