On the Silk Road

Our first stop this morning along one of the old Silk Road routes is the ruins of 15th century Seýit Jemaladdin Mosque in Anau. The mosque had stood until the 1984 earthquake destroyed it and most of Ashgabat. The area is still one of the most important religious places of Turkmenistan.

Our final destination today is Mary where we visited the Central Bazaar, Juma Mosque, and a Russian Orthodox Church.
