Running To The Sea . . . Corben Simpson
Before going to the movies I sat on the beach and ate a sandwich. The sun was lovely. The movie was a feature lenght documentary about Sir Miles Warren and Maurice Mahoney's hugely influential architectural partnership in Christchurch. The second part of the film features the fight to save the Town Hall they designed with world class acoustics. I found the archival parts of the film very moving showing Christchurch as it once was. For every design Miles Warren did a large and beautiful water colour painting showing how the building would look in its surroundings and with the colours of the materials to be used. I wonder how many of them are still in existence. They did re engineer the foundations of the Town Hall and restore it.
