swarf! A neat little vinyl disc cutter. Back in the day, portable recorders used acetate discs. The swarf was highly inflammable and outside broadcast engineers were instructed to place in safely outside the van and burn it. Shouting as a warning to other, "Ware Swarf!". This thing produces a more benign byproduct, described by the manufacturer as "scum". Where has the romance gone ?
