Five barrowloads

This afternoon I decided to remove the branch, twig and leaf matter which over the last year has fallen between the old railway sleepers (shoring up the slope) and the side wall of the garage. Five barrowloads were shifted into compost piles behind the house.

The slope is quite steep; Beside the hill is the big old Kauri tree. It is important that no one walks over the top of that hill, as the roots can be damaged. This Kauri appears to be strong and healthy, and is likely to be more than 500 years old.
