On This Day In History

Quote Of The Day
"I did it for all the fierce black women on the front lines of the movement and for all the little black girls who are watching us. I did it because I am free."
(Bree Newsome)

I have now completed three days of my seven days training course on technology in education. I'm really enjoying it. I have a one hour home room Zoom meeting from 18:45 each day with four other learners, followed by a two hour instructional Zoom meeting with all of the learners around the world. We are all given about three to four hours worth of learning tasks to complete asynchronously before the next day's lessons. I usually get up at about 05:30 and then finish my learning tasks by 11:00. It's a lot of work, but I'm enjoying it. The subject and material is fascinating.

Today's blip is one of my learning tasks which I completed this morning. We were given a selection of articles we could choose to read and then we had to make a headline and a poster summarising that article. I adapted that by incorporating a couple of the videos that I watched from the previous learning task into the poster. I will put a link to those videos below. While creating this poster, I realised what a fantastic, time-saving tool A.I. can be. I enjoyed making this poster, I'm sure children would too, and they would be reviewing and embedding their learning while creating it. Time saved making a poster on paper could be used discussing the subject of learning and perhaps taking it in exciting directions that the teacher probably could not have imagined. Obviously we would not resort to A.I. to do every learning task, but it would be a powerful resource to waste. In fact, ignoring it would be to do the pupils a tremendous disservice and leave them on the wrong side of the digital divide.

It is very easy to get all apocalyptic about A.I., but I believe that, while the potential dangers of A.I. do exist, the potential for A.I. to advance humanity to the next stage of evolution is also very real, exciting and hopeful. I always think of Winston Churchill's comment at times like this, "I am an optimist. It does not seem too much use in being anything else."
