Mermaid of the North

Today we first headed to Chanonry Point.
We had hoped to see some dolphins or porpoises at this well known place for sightings.
We’d been unlucky the last time we were here, at the start of our North Coast 500 trip a few years ago.
So checking on the most likely time for sightings, and learning that it is about an hour after low tide, when the dolphins are likely to be chasing the fish coming in on the rising tide, we got here just after 10.30am (low tide was 10:04) to find quite a lot of people already there. We were lucky to get a parking spot.
However, to no avail.
Hopefully another time…

We then continued north to Balintore.
Here you can find the Mermaid of the North sculpture.

Afterwards, we went a bit further north again to Dornoch. Had the most amazing fish & chips at The Highland Larder - well worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Back in Nairn in the evening, another beach walk.
