Day Three : Ephesus

Wow! and Double Wow! One of the main tourist attractions of Turkey, it has taken me more than fifteen years to finally come and see this ancient city that in its heyday had a population 250,000 people. To say we walked through the crowded ruins in the relentless sun would be an understatement. Of course I took a zillion photos, some of which were almost artistic, but this panoramic view shows how the once metropolis was nestled in the surrounding countrysie and the whole city as it exists today with the main boulevard leading from the highest point - the area of senate buildings, baths and temples - down to the once hubub of the city centre with shops and huge library (the largest building facade in the distance) and enormous amphitheatre..

After Ephesus, we were in dire need of refreshment after such strenous exertion (yes, we really did walk the entire length of the city - though it was down hill all the way, thanks to Jack for dropping us off at the top then parking at the bottom carpark!). So we drove to Kusadasi and had a late lunch in a restaurant at the sea's edge. Gaby and I ate there one evening last year. Today the service was unbelievably slow, but view was lovely, food was fine once it arrived and the sea remarkably lively with a ballet of spray to mesmerise the hungry mind. Satiated, back to the flat for a lazy late afternoon nap and early evening swim in the pool. Culture, eating, napping, drinking, swimming all in one day - this is the life !!
