A Grand Day Out
We decided to go off to the coast - Solway Firth, which is surprisingly close by and pretty. You feel like you have gone back in time - Port Carlisle with its gentlemans row of well to do houses takes you back to the trading days of foreign spices. Drumburgh has a pub (I forget the name but there is only one) and when you step inside you are transported back to the sixties, although the building is much older than that. A lovely day, not too hot. India and Alex walking Yanu back from the seas edge in the distance. She had to be put on her lead as she kept swimming out to strong tides in the middle of the estuary. Full of free range cattle, buttercups and other wildflowers this lowland is a haven for wildlife and can often be covered in water in winter. In the distance across the Firth you can just make out the Galloway Hills and Dumfrieshire. Time to go - tides coming in and the fishermen are out in their dozens.
