Had a very welcome visit from an old friend, who braved Scotrail's slightly flaky timetable and got here in spite of an unexpected train change in Bellshill! We took her down to Toppings which was very restorative to the spirits. Then popped in to V & C and McNaughtan's before heading for the National Gallery on the mound - half looking for a painting by her auntie which they have, but probably not on display. We left her rummaging in the Gallery shop on her way back to Waverley and her train. Oh, it came on to rain while we were in the gallery - do you suppose that's it for the summer?
