Independence Day
After spending the night here, little Tristan woke early. I put him in bed with me while Mr. Fun made coffee. Keeping Tristan on the bed playing with his cars and reading his books wasn't going to last long though. Thankfully our daughter, Tristan's Aunt Dede phoned and said she'd come to retreive the little guy. We've discovered that this place needs a major going over to get it baby proof.
So while we waited for Dede, we headed down the stairs to the high chair. We sliced bananas, apples, and had delcious yogurt. That pleased Tristan.
After Dede and Tristan were gone, we had a quiet relaxed day. I think most in America get together for large group barbeques. We stayed home for a private barbeque for two--steak, corn on the cob, potato salad, garlic bread.
Momentarily the fireworks will begin from one of the numerous high schools in our community. We'll watch from our backyard. While fireworks are not legal in our community, I can hear them going off all over the neighborhood. It's a good thing that Bob dog is deaf. Fireworks used to scare him terribly.
I am thankful for our nation, for the people who have served and are serving to provide the freedom I experience. I am an American--born and raised here. My heritage is from the UK. I am 1/4 Irish, 1/4 Scottish, and 1/2 English. I know that today is called Independence Day and I know what that means. But in a bigger sense, I sure think we all really do need each other. So Independence as a Nation is one thing, but as people I'm not so sure, I think we need each other. Janice Joplin used to sing, "Freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose." That line is a thinker! So I'm thankful for friends, for family, for blippers, for co-workers and for all who enrich my life.
A firecracker good night to all!
