In the Light

A disappointing start to the week, with an email from my conveyancing solicitor forwarding yet another isolated query from the buyer’s solicitor. These have been coming in at the rate of one every couple of weeks, drip, drip, drip. Each time I double-check that nothing else is needed from me, and am told that this is the last piece of information needed to exchange contracts - it’s bizarre. In my three other experiences of the conveyancing process I’ve never known anything like it, I really don’t know what they’re playing at. They should have been asking this sort of question weeks ago, when we completed all the appropriate query forms, not when we are nearing exchange of contracts. My solicitor, management company secretary (and neighbour), and estate agent are as puzzled as I am about it. This time they make the unsubstantiated claim that surface water in my road doesn’t drain into the public sewage system. What a load of rubbish! Surface water quite clearly goes down the kerbside drains which are all along the road, then it flows through the Chesham sewage network and is dealt with by Affinity Water at their sewage works in the valley. I have complained to the estate agent and asked her to put some pressure on the buyer’s solicitors to stop mucking me about like this.

Another flower blip - sorry if I’m boring everyone with them, but life is unavoidably lacking in interesting and enjoyable outings while I deal with the interminable property stuff. I went out into the garden to put the recycling out for collection and my eye was immediately drawn to the sunlight shining through the rose petals and leaves from behind - such a beautiful effect. “In the Light” is a favourite Led Zeppelin track which happens to be in my head at the moment and seemed an appropriate title for today’s blip.
